The PRSI Treatment Benefit Scheme covers the cost of hearing aids up to €1,000*. Public support for hearing aids varies from year to year. In 2026, you can receive:

• The full cost of a hearing aid up to a maximum of €500 (€1,000 for a pair) once every fourth calendar year.
• The government will also pay the full cost of repairs for hearing aids, up to a maximum of €100, once every fourth calendar year.

If you’ve been paying a PRSI contribution, you could be entitled to free or discounted hearing aids through the PRSI government scheme. The PRSI Treatment Benefit Scheme covers the cost of hearing aids up to €1,000*. At Hidden Hearing, we will prescribe the most suitable hearing aids available to treat your hearing loss and assist you in applying for benefits under the scheme. 

The department allows for ONE claim per each aid (left and right, not 2 rights or 2 lefts) to a maximum amount of €100, in each 4 year period that the main grant has been made on those aids.  Any repair charge in excess of the grant needs to be paid by the patient and once the repair grant has been claimed then the patient needs to pay for the repair exclusively.

The eligibility for the repair grant, can be checked through the PRSI portal, signed consent to be given before this check is carried out.  The portal will give details of any repair grant available.  A GP declaration is not required for a repair.
