I would like to thank everyone at Hidden Hearing especially my consultant Jonathan Mooney. Jonathan you really helped and encouraged me through the process from my first visit. This has been a life changing experience for me and something I should have done a long time ago. Thank you for your understanding and professionalism.

Mona Stephenson, Bray

To Graham (Holmes), and your wonderful receptionist Sharon, (Hidden Hearing Bray),

I’m writing you this letter to thank you both for all your help.

As you know from the first appointment with you, hearing has been problem for me for as long as I can remember. Part of the reason I left it so long to go fix this was due to fearing I will be told there was no help for me.

From the moment I met you Graham, you have put my mind at ease and made me feel so comfortable and even made me laugh. You have a great way of making my situation feel less scary and for this I will be forever grateful.

Thanks to you, I can finally hear things I thought I would never hear. I will never be able to repay you for all your amazing work, I just hope this letter will show you how wonderful I think you are at what you do.

I can’t thank you enough but just know you have changed my life completely. Now I can do things I never thought was possible.

I’ll never forget the day you made me the happiest person alive.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you have not just changed my life, but my kid’s lives too. They finally have a Mammy who is no longer afraid to do things with them.

Thank you so very much,
Mona Stephenson

Michael, Clare

Michelle Harding in your Ennis branch is so kind and helpful that I imagine it would be difficult to find a better person to deal with my hearing problem. I would strongly recommend her to all with a hearing need.

Lyn, Galway

It gives me great pleasure to present a testimonial to the excellent services, and also personality, of my Hidden Hearing audiologist, Yvonne Doyle.

It was of great benefit to me that Yvonne visited me in the comfort of my own home, rather than in an office, and to know after her first visit that she would be looking after me for all subsequent appointments. I must say that all our meetings were relaxed, friendly and sympathetic.

The hearing tests were carried out very efficiently and pleasantly by Yvonne and my daughter was also present. When I received my hearing aids for both left and right ears, I was patiently shown how to insert then and also how to take care of them.

I had the comfort of knowing that if I had any queries or difficulties between appointments, I could communicate with Yvonne by phone or e-mail. She dealt with my queries very promptly. Appointments were kept, punctually, and if they needed to be changed I was quickly informed.

I have had my Aids now for about four months and they have changed my life considerably for the better. Some of this is due to the quality of the aids of course, but a lot of credit must go to Yvonne for her unfailing interest in me and for all her kind attention.

Yours,
Lyn

Frank Harris

To whom it may concern,
My name is Frank Harris. My occupation in life was cabinet maker and over the years with not wearing ear protection and general noise of the factory, it took its toll on my hearing. I was in denial for years, pretending I could hear what people were saying and putting up with it. It took my grandchildren to wake me up because when the phone would ring, they would prefer to talk to granny rather than grandpa, who kept saying ‘What was that again?’ or not answering at all.

One day I said to myself ‘I have to go about this’. My wife and I set off for Hidden Hearing in Abbey Street. We were put at ease the moment we entered the office. There was no confusion and everything was explained at our pace. I now have my life back and being able to join in on the family conversations is powerful. My only regret is I didn’t go to Hidden Hearing years ago. Many thanks to everyone at Hidden Hearing in Abbey Street for such a pleasant experience.

Yours,
Frank Harris

There is 2 of the finest workers here in Galway. They are very kind, obliging and are wonderful to talk to.

Dr. Philip Brown

Dear Sir or Madam,

Ref: Mr Gavin Johnson

Dr. Philip BrownI am writing to you regarding your above named employee, as I believe in awarding credit where it's due, and it is definitely due to Mr. Johnson.

Gavin has been looking after my father, Dr. Philip Brown of Co. Wexford, his hearing and hearing aid needs for the past six years or so. Dad always speaks very highly of him: how meticulous he is (Dad's a doctor so that's very important), and how he can make himself easily understood. I also hear a lot about how accommodating he is. Dad loves the fact that Gavin comes to see him and if he has a problem all he has to do is phone and Gavin will be there within a few hours. Nothing is too much trouble for him. This is what I've been hearing anyway.

I met Gavin for the first time about three weeks ago. I met him at the door, introduced myself, and left him and my father to it. My mother died last year and since then I have been my father's primary carer. As his memory gets worse I've found that I need to involve myself more in his affairs. Obviously it's not something I'm used to but it has to be done - looking after his interests and so forth. I am not a fan of mankind as a whole and I don't necessarily expect the best from people, so, although Dad thinks the world of Gavin, the thought that an unscrupulous young man may try to take advantage of the situation was in the back of my mind, an elderly man with a lousy memory and only the two of them in the room..... I was, to say the least, curious. But I need not have worried. After a fair while Dad called me in to join them. He told me that he was buying new hearing aids. Gavin must have seen the look on my face as he jumped in very quickly and explained, in terms I could understand, exactly what's been going on with my father's ears and hearing over the last six years, why he needed the new hearing aids and he went through the finances with me.

I found him to be very open and honest and very clear in the way he explained complex matters. He also seemed to welcome my curiosity and the questions I had. He said he'd be back the following week with the new devices. He was a day early. Then he came back, because I had felt so welcome the previous week, I had no hesitation about staying in the room as he explained and demonstrated the new hearing aids to my father. When he started to show me how to change domes etc. I told him not to bother as I'm losing my sight. My central vision is going first, so when I try to look at something directly I can't see it. I was very impressed when he was able to show me how to do it by touch. When they went to sign the documents and so forth I asked if they were OK with me being there - still can't get used to being up to my elbows in Dad's business! Gavin immediately said that he'd really rather that I was there, which reassured me that he wasn't out to rip Dad off.

Although I value my father's word I tend to take people as I find them and I found Gavin to be highly professional and very personable. He explains things very clearly, so that even someone like me, who has no experience in these matters, can understand what he means. He's a warm person and makes you feel at ease and I think he's a great asset to your company.

To whom it may concern. This is just a satisfied note to thank you for your splendid service.

Your agent Gavin Johnson is one of a type - obliging, dedicated and efficient. All these former traits are very scarce in these days of carelessness and instability. It is a joy to meet a gentleman such as Gavin.

It is a pity that there are so few in business on which one can rely, but I would give full marks to Hidden Hearing. I am so happy that Gavin sorts everything out with no trouble and with great patience.

John O'Sullivan

On Monday the 9th of March, I attended the Hidden Hearing event in The Gresham Hotel. It was a very interesting and useful day.

I would like to take this opportunity of highlighting the wonderful service that I am getting from my hearing aid consultant Gavin Johnson.

Gavin is extremely efficient, courteous and a pleasure to have coming to our home. Over the pst 3 years Gavin has been of great assistance and helpful in every way.

Ruth Warren

I would like to make a personal comment on my experience on visiting Hidden Hearing. I found Max Fletcher to be very helpful, patient and understanding which made my visit less daunting. I would also like to mention Colette the receptionist who was so kind and nice when I had to cancel my visits because of hospital appointments. Many Thanks.

Mary O'Donoghue

Michael O'Sullivan

It had to happen sometime.... Picture the scenario... you are in a crowd with everybody talking... you wonder why people are looking at you in a strange way, because you nod and smile - in all the wrong places. Or you are watching TV and the volume is at ear-bursting levels and your poor wife has to leave the room to retain her sanity ... and hearing. Or, you are in church and find it impossible to understand what is being said. Does all of this sound familiar???. If it does then you, like me, have a hearing problem.

When my lovely wife said "get a hearing aid ... or else" I immediately went to a well-known company here in Cork where it was confirmed by the audiologist that I did have a hearing problem ... (as if I didn’t already know...). I eventually got my hearing aid and not knowing what improvement to expect, I was reasonably happy with it. However, I decided that it wasn’t what I had hoped for and returned it. A friend advised me to go to ‘Hidden Hearing’ for a test.

From the moment I went into their shop, in Marlboro Street, to be greeted by the charming Mary, I knew I had made the right decision. Before long I was being tested by the resident audiologist, Jim Williamson. What a professional this man is, whatever he is being paid should be doubled ... at least. I couldn't help but compare the high tech testing methods of ‘Hidden Hearing’ with that of the first firm .... no contest.

Jim, with great patience, put me through the various tests, where I had to listen to a series of whistles, beeps, white noise and other strange sounds. The great secret was out there ... my high frequency range was the problem. (I knew that all along of course.....just wanted to get confirmation of it. - bad joke!) Before very long I was back in the shop to collect my ‘made to my specific needs’ hearing aid. Not knowing what to expect from it, Jim fitted the aid for my right ear first and then fitted the second aid to my left ear. There followed a musical jingle to confirm that both aids were in contact with each other.

The big moment came, what difference would my aid make! and I just couldn’t believe the clarity of sound and the improvement in my hearing, Jim continued to make adjustments, until I was 100% happy. (Did I say his wages should be doubled??). When I ventured out to Patrick Street the barrage of sounds that met me was unbelievable. I could hear and understand what passers-by were saying. (no more head nodding and smiling in the wrong places). I thought; ‘James Bond ... move over.’

The big test, for me, was the problem I had previously in understanding what was being said by the priest in my local church. Would the ‘loop system’ work with my new hearing aid? I didn't have long to wait for the result. What a revelation of sound!. No longer was I only able to understand the occasional word. EVERY word was crystal clear.

Our hearing is one of our very precious senses, thankfully, I have got mine back.

Thank you ‘Hidden Hearing’

Betty

Hi, I write on behalf of my Mum, Betty Sexton, Battlestown, Ramsgrange, New Ross, Co. Wexford.

My Mum asked me to write to commend the service she receives from her Hidden Hearing Representative, Gavin Johnson.

Mum has been attending Gavin for approximately 4 years and is extremely happy with the service Gavin provides.

Thank you, Lisa

Dear Fiona (Customer Service),

Forgive my delay in thanking you for your wonderful kindness during Christmas week. You gave my daughter sample aids for me when my own failed me. Because of your kindness, I not only had a fantastic Christmas and New Year, but you enabled me to take part in a very special wedding and do a reading which was looking impossible. I cannot thank you enough.

I hope you had a good Christmas and I wish you all that is good in 2015. There are too few like you. P.S. I am going to your branch in Limerick this week (the nearest one to me) to hopefully become a client.

To whom it may Concern,

I am writing to outline some of the marvellous benefits which I have received from the use of my hearing aids. I realised I was getting deaf when I had to turn up (a) the television (b) constantly told by my nieces and nephews that I was “getting deaf’ and (c) unable to hear my friends asking me questions whilst I was driving to Galway several times a week.

Since receiving my Hearing Aids the benefits to me have been enormous. On the first day I received the aids I was journeying home and thought I heard a “rattle” in the car which wasn’t there before. It turned out to be my sunglasses in the glove box rattling around. That evening I also heard one of my clocks ticking for the first time which was amazing.

Not having to turn up the television at home is a great boon and also not having the embarrassment of having to sit close to the TV when I am in Dublin with my friends. My other great joy is being able to go to the theatre or concerts and hear actually what's being said or played.

Recently I have decided that the three great assets to my life now are my hearing aids, my car and the microwave. A very special word of praise for Caroline who was very professional, very thoughtful, caring and knowledgeable I have recommended Hidden Hearing to my friends and singing its praises. They say they will wait to see “how I get on” and then decide should the take that big step.

Thank You Hidden Hearing for making a big difference to my life.

Had an appointment with Jim (Fulham) and Liz in the Cavan branch today! It’s been a year since I got my new set of “ears” and it’s been an amazing journey! I’m now back singing and enjoying every conversation going on around me. Don’t be one bit afraid to call into these guys, they have done so much for me. They are an amazing team and I feel I’ve got my life back with my new set of “ears”. #canheareverythingnow

I must congratulate your firm on your efficiency and wonderful service. I have been telling my friends how satisfied I have been with my "Hidden Hearing."

Elaine Reilly, Cavan

I got my first set of hearing aids in September 2008. My hearing was perfect up until I had my daughter then I started to notice a change in it, very gradual at first. She was almost 5 when I said enough was enough and went and looked for help. When I got my first set of hearing aids my life changed so much, I was hearing all the things I had missed for so long. I am a singer in a choir and it made a big difference to be able to hear the notes and not just rely on memory for the songs!!!

Early this year, 2013, I began to notice little changes, I was missing out on a lot of conversations at work unless the person was standing in front of me, even a simple task like answering the telephone had become a problem, I was blaming the handset but it was really my hearing. So off I went back down to Hidden Hearing and had my hearing re-tested. The result was a bit of a shock, my hearing was decreased a lot from my last full hearing test. Since I had my first set of aids fitted, a new aid has come on the market, Jim (cavan branch) was fantastic, he knew that this one would change my life !!! I tried it out in the office in Cavan and couldn’t believe all the beautiful sounds and noises that I had been missing, or not hearing properly. I was amazed that it was possible to get my hearing back to almost what it had been all those years ago. I could hear everything, all the process that they go through in the office is just great and because the new aids are Bluetooth activated they decide what I need to hear, like in a pub situation, I only hear the person in front of me and the background noise is turned down. Totally amazing !!!

The whole time with hidden hearing has definitely had a major effect on my life, I can hear my daughter voice more clearly, my husband chatting to me at night, when before this it was a very one sided conversation. The first day I got my new hearing aids, I spent alot of time just standing and listening, it was beautiful, I had been missing so much ordinary stuff, like the sound of the airplanes over the house, the morning birds saying hello.

I will be forever grateful to hidden hearing for giving me a big part of my life back.

Mr Sean Kearns

Dear Mr Viney,

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your kindness and valuable time to give me a hearing test last Tuesday.

Indeed my visit was a real surprise in your very lovely consulting room. It was a really valuable learning regarding our hearing and its depreciation to us mortals.

I’m keeping your recommendations for the future, I will keep it in mind and endeavour to recommend my visit to my friends who may need to protect their hearing.

Thank you again and wishing you very good business,

Mr Sean Kearns

Fiona McLoughlin, 36, Dublin

Losing your hearing at the age of 36 is a pretty fearful experience in itself. A fear of not being able to communicate with other people, not being able to follow or respond to conversation properly; a fear of not being able to do my job or nothing being the same ever again; a fear of wearing hearing aids.
All of those fears were quickly put to rest the second I stepped foot into the Hidden Hearing office in Artane. The team at Hidden Hearing Artane are amazingly friendly, open and helpful. The second you cross the threshold, you’re met with a beaming smile and a warm hello. The team make a special effort to remember your name and know your background from your previous visit. It’s such a reassuring experience to know someone has your hearing concerns at heart.
When I was first told I had to wear hearing aids, I was devastated. Openly balling my eyes out, my audiologist took the time to inform and reassure me that there were many solutions to my level of hearing loss. Knowing that I feared having to wear hearing aids, he showed me these miniature hearing aids that would sit on top of my ear with a wire that enters the ear. The irony is that four months on, I find that I tell people I wear hearing aids (despite the fact they can’t see them) because I’m not ashamed of the fact that I wear them. That in itself is a huge transformation for me – and one that my audiologist helped me to undergo.
My advice to anyone suspecting they have hearing loss is to get it checked out – sooner rather than later. I really don’t understand why I didn’t get a hearing test sooner, considering I go for eye tests at least once a year.
I highly recommend Hidden Hearing Artane - a friendly, supportive and knowledgeable team. From my initial consultation to the ongoing service and support that they provide, they continue to exceed my expectations. Thank you.

Gerard Wall, Dublin

About four or five years ago I noticed that my mother was having problems with her hearing when she would turn up the volume on the television and I had to keep repeating myself when talking to her. I also noticed that she was becoming withdrawn as she found it embarrassing not being able to hear in social situations but would pretend that she could.
My brother and I tried to convince her for years to get her hearing tested but she was in denial and didn’t want to admit that she was having problems hearing. She was also concerned about how the hearing aid would look and it wasn’t until I showed her some images of modern-day hearing aids that she agreed to visit her local Hidden Hearing branch in July and undergo a hearing test.
The test was very straightforward and she was delighted with the service that she received from her audiologist Barry Douglas at Hidden Hearing. She was diagnosed with severe hearing loss in one ear and 60% hearing loss in the other and fitted with a hearing aid. The hearing aid is very discreet and she has adapted very well to having it. It has made a massive difference to her life and I’ve noticed that she is far more confident and sociable and can now clearly hear the clock ticking, the doorbell ringing and has no problem having conversations on the phone.
Not only has it improved her life but it has also improved mine and the rest of our family. I no longer have to raise my voice when speaking to her and don’t worry about her not being able to hear properly. If you notice that a family member is having problems it’s important to encourage them to get tested as soon as possible. My mother’s life has been transformed and she has recommended Hidden Hearing to all of her friends.

Richard Evans (44, Leitrim)

When I was born premature, I was given an antibiotic which caused severe nerve damage to my ears and as a result I was fitted with hearing aids at the tender age of 18 months. As a child I often refused to wear my hearing aids as I was embarrassed and would get teased at school. At the age of 21 I stopped wearing them altogether relying on my ability to lip read. In April, I decided to visit my local Hidden Hearing branch in Sligo, after refusing to wear hearing aids for over 20 years, and was fitted with a hearing aid in each ear. I was prompted by the fact that I started taking care of my general health and fitness and decided that I should no longer neglect my hearing health.
Getting hearing aids was the best investment I ever made and my life has improved significantly since. I now enjoy the simple pleasures of hearing birds sing and realise what I had been missing out on for all those years. I can now join conversations and don’t have to pretend to be able to hear in social situations which often caused me great stress and embarrassment. Due to the advances in technology, modern hearing aids are now slimmer, easier to use and more comfortable. They’re so discreet that I can wear them without being noticed.
I would advise anyone experiencing problems with their hearing not to delay getting it checked and to visit their local Hidden Hearing clinic as my life has really changed for the better since I was fitted with hearing aids.

Mrs. Joan O’Gorman

Dear Sir/Madam, as you are aware, I purchased two Hearing Aids from your company through your Hearing Aid Audiologist in Ballina, Mr. Ashley Cunningham.
I am writing to you today in order to convey to you how absolutely satisfied I am with my purchase, but more importantly (yes!) to express my gratitude for the excellent care and attention I have – and continue to have – received from Mr. Cunningham. I don’t know if you realise how great an ambassador for your company you have in Mr. Cunningham. He is always and ever so attentive, caring and courteous when dealing with any little problems I have encountered (and they were only minor, nothing to get alarmed about!) but no matter how trivial they may have been , Mr. Cunningham treated them all with the utmost kindness and consideration.
I have no hesitation in recommending your company and Mr. Cunningham to any of my friends who may complain about hearing difficulties.

Pat Sheppard, Carnew

I have been wearing hearing aids for the past 16 years. Now I have digital hearing aids supplied by Hidden Hearing three months ago - what a transformation to my life! I had lost interest in television because even with the volume at its highest I still could not hear correctly. Now I can hear the birds singing in my garden and best of all, I can enjoy conversations more with my family & friends.
I had resigned myself to my deafness and only now realise what I was missing and of course, it is a comfort to those with whom I communicate. One person remarked, "You are a different person to talk to since you got your new hearing aids", and I feel like a different person. I will never regret my decision to get my new digital hearing aids.

Sr. Hyacintha Hudson, Dundalk

Yesterday I had my free Hidden Hearing check and calibration, one of the many I've had since you supplied me with my two aids. I am an 86 year old Franciscan nun. Having spent forty years working in hospital in Africa, my hearing was affected by over use of Quinine in the very early days of 1951, but Hidden Hearing came to my rescue several years ago.
I would like to add my thanks to Mr. Martyn Mulvey in your Dundalk Branch. He is so very kind, thorough and understanding. I am renewed each time he checks my hearing aids, and they too are renewed for work. God bless all engaged in this work.

Mark Booker

I first noticed that I had a problem with my hearing in the early 1990s, when I was in my mid twenties. I ignored it for a good few years because of my age, and also because I didn’t want the stigma of wearing a hearing aid so young, I felt it went against the cosmetic look for a young man. I waited seven years before seeking treatment for my hearing loss. When I went for a hearing test through the NHS in the UK, I was told that I had significant hearing loss in both ears. I began to wear a hearing aid in my left ear, I refused to wear two as I felt embarrassed, despite the fact that I badly needed a hearing aid in both ears. Back then, the only option available was the old analogue hearing aids, which were bulky and not always effective. The hearing aid helped a lot but I still found certain things difficult. I work in sales so I spend a huge amount of time on the phone, my hearing loss was making my job increasingly difficult.
In the late 90s I crossed over to an in-ear hearing aid, which was a lot more discreet. I still found certain aspects of my job difficult – such as meetings, but I was stubborn, and wouldn’t wear a second hearing aid. Three years ago I met Phil Cornwell, audiologist with Hidden Hearing in Cork. Phil said that he felt he could help improve my quality of life further. I was really impressed by Phil’s depth of knowledge on hearing loss and hearing aids. Phil guided me through the process of finding the right hearing aid which could adapt to both my work and home life. I was fitted with two new state-of-the-art digital hearing aids.
The difference has been incredible. I no longer struggle in work, I can hear every word spoken in meetings. My new hearing aids also connect to my phone via Bluetooth technology which is first class, so calls with clients have become much easier. Hearing aids have advanced so much since I first sought treatment 15 years ago. To those who may be putting off seeking treatment, my advice is to address the issue and see the range of options available. With today’s technology, most people will never even know you wear a hearing aid. Of course, if it were possible, I would swap my hearing aids for a pair of glasses in the morning, if they made my hearing better … but my point is that if you address hearing loss, your life will improve 100%. I am living proof of that.
I play golf twice a week and now have no trouble hearing other players shouting ‘fore!’. I can even hear balls hitting trees and birds singing along the golf course. This has to be for me the greatest improvement since the new digital aids were fitted. I can also control volumes so that when I go into a loud bar with music or a busy train station, I can turn the volume down from a wireless streamer which I carry in my pocket. Put simply, LIFE IS GOOD AGAIN!

Yvonne Kinsella

I was in denial about my hearing loss for nearly a decade. I used to work as a waitress in busy pubs and clubs, so for years I was around loud music day in day out. This had a huge affect on my hearing. When I needed to speak to someone, I had to shout over background noise. I used to have to take a food order three or four times before I got it right. I’d make a joke of myself so people didn’t think I was stupid. If people turned their backs on me I wasn’t able to understand what they were saying, so I knew something was wrong. But I never wanted to believe I was going deaf.
Losing my hearing was a gradual thing, I didn’t wake up one day and say: “oh God, my hearing is gone”. I went from being a happy, bubbly young woman to being someone I barely recognised. I isolated myself from people. It was easier that way because I wasn’t able to hold a conversation.
I was in the doctor’s surgery one day and by chance came across an advert for Hidden Hearing. I went for a test and I was told that my hearing loss was moderate to severe. They were so helpful and went through everything with me. I was soon fitted with a hearing aid.
Since getting my hearing aid, my life has changed completely. My confidence has been transformed. It also helped me to realise that my son had a speech impediment. Previously I was aware that he had difficulty pronouncing some words, but when I got my hearing aids, I soon realised there was a problem. He is now attending a speech therapist and he couldn’t be happier. My advice to anyone who thinks they are even ever so slightly hard of hearing is to just go and get it checked out. Don’t ignore the problem like I did – you’ll be missing out on so much if you do.

Maureen Griffin, Roscommon

A few years ago I started to notice my hearing getting worse. If I was in the back of a car, I couldn’t hear what people in the front seats were saying. It got worse and worse. If I was speaking to friends or family in an area with any background noise, it was hopeless. It got so bad that I couldn’t hear the phone at all, I had to rely on my husband Tom hearing it. I made an appointment for myself and my husband with Hidden Hearing’s Athlone branch. When the audiologist fitted the hearing aids, I couldn’t believe the difference. I could hear the traffic out on the street, I could hear the clock ticking. We were both delighted with the level of care and service we received at Hidden Hearing. My hearing aid has made a huge difference to my life, I feel more confident going to meet friends and can watch TV and radio again in comfort.

Tom Griffin, Roscommon

I was born almost deaf in my left ear. Recently I began to notice I was finding it more difficult to hear with my right ear. I go to a lot of sports matches and I began to find the stands really noisy and couldn’t hear what my friends beside me were saying. My wife Maureen (testimonial above) suggested going to Hidden Hearing, and I am delighted that we did. My hearing is as good now as it ever was and I have no trouble chatting with friends on the sidelines as I support my favourite teams.

I am writing to thank your company for sending Greg Ward to take care of my "hard of hearing" needs. From the hearing test on he explained what was happening and why, with patience, sensitivity and a touch of humour. A true gentleman. I now feel confident and comfortable using my new hearing aids and am glad to know I can call for help if I do encounter problems.

Joe Patterson, Donegal

Living in a world where you are straining to hear. Letterkenny man Joe Patterson suffered hearing loss as a teenager and tolerated years of bad hearing without seeking medical attention. Joe is urging young people not to make the same mistake he did. He finally sought help while attending a FAS course so that he could understand everything that was going on. Hidden Hearing in Letterkenny fitted a discreet digital aid that makes him wonder why he left it so long. “Looking back on it now it just seems really stupid, letting it go for eight years”! Coming to terms with the extent of his hearing problem was terrible, Joe admits, but having come o terms with it and now equipped with hearing aids he is comfortable with, he would encourage anyone with a hearing problem to seek help. “It is just as bad to live in a world where you are straining to hear. I would hate to live in a world where I couldn’t hear”.

Adrienne Joyce, Dublin

I discovered I had a hearing problem when I was 15. An operation at the Eye and Ear Hospital resolved some of the problems but afterwords things began deteriorating again. I finally decided to do something about it after I realised how difficult it was for friends and relatives when they are around someone with a hearing problem. As soon as I got my Hidden Hearing aid, I was so delighted. I am a new woman! I feel like i’m back in a social circle again.

{slider Terence Casey, Killarney}

Terence Casey of Killarney was having difficulty hearing in both working and home life. Hearing family and watching TV he noticed a loss of lots of the conversations. "Since Richard from Hidden Hearing fitted me with the latest digital technology, my life has improved immensely and I don't feel like i'm wearing anything. The aids are small and comfortable. I receive two services every year and my hearing is checked annually to ensure all is on track. Having a hearing problem and ignoring it really reduces your quality of life, hearing is not a luxury it is a necessity and you never realise what you are missing out on, until the problem is corrected.

Lydia Gharyst, Cork

Deena Walsh, Director of the Chernobyl Children's Trust in Cork tells the story of Lydia a special young girl whose life was dramatically altered after visiting Hidden Hearing. Twenty year old Lydia has been coming to Cork since she was twelve years old. This bright Belarus native was profoundly deaf and painfully self conscious having been fitted with analogue aids through the health system. "This was inadequate as it amplified all sounds, including passing lorries," Deena says. "After we noticed her becoming withdrawn, we contacted Hidden Hearing and Phil Cornwall. She was tested and fitted with new digital hearing aids. We couldn't believe how small it was and lydia learned to hear all over again." Lydia recently returned to Belarus and is studying computer science and living a life she never imagined she would.
