How long are you working with Hidden Hearing ,Mullingar, & Monaghan?
Seven and a half years.David Courtney

Why did you become an Audiologist?
I had a manufacturing engineering background and felt that audiology / healthcare was a particular area that interested me from a science and career opportunity perspective.

What’s a typical day like for you?
Working mainly in GP’s clinics and Hidden Hearing’s clinics, testing peoples hearing, offering hearing solutions, specifying hearing aids to be manufactured, fitting the hearing aids, conducting follow up checks and service checks on hearing aids. In effect, I could meet from say six to fifteen clients in any one day depending on the mix of work or appointments.

What excites you about your job?
You are constantly meeting people that have a wide variety of hearing loss issues. Providing successful hearing solutions and seeing people experiencing the benefits in their everyday life is very satisfying.

What do you like about Hidden Hearing?
The opportunity to achieve continuous professional development while working throughout my career. Working with a team of committed people across all aspects of hearing healthcare.

What advice would you give to someone who is reluctant to getting a hearing test?
For the vast majority of people, whether they have normal hearing a mild, moderate or severe hearing loss, having a hearing test completed is a very positive experience. The can establish their hearing loss, establish if there is a referable condition to their GP or if they are a suitable candidate for wearing hearing aids. If the conclusion is the latter the client can experience wearing hearing aids on the day of the test and the respective benefit. So people have nothing to lose but everything to gain in terms of the knowledge imparted that could make a significant positive contribution to their everyday lives

What hobbies do you do outside of the day job?
I have coached Gaelic football teams in my club for the past ten years. I am currently coaching officer for my local GAA club. I also have an interest in walking, current affairs and listening to music.
