Is there financial assistance available for hearing aids?
Yes, there is funding under the Treatment Benefit Scheme operated by the Department of Social and Family Affairs. Qualifying patients and their dependent spouses who have full PRSI cover may get a grant towards the cost of a hearing aid. This would include full contributory pensioners, invalidity pensioners, those on disability benefit and their dependent spouses (conditions apply)
The grant assistance is available to qualifying non-medical card and medical cardholders if they obtain a hearing aid privately.
How much can I get towards the cost of a hearing aid?
Grants for hearing aids can be claimed once every 4 years. From 1 January 2012, the maximum grant available is €500 for one hearing aid, and €1,000 for two hearing aids. For further information request a call back or contact us free on 1800 818 808 to see if you qualify.
Alternatively you can make an appointment in your local clinic for a free one-to-one consultation where all your questions can be addressed. We can complete all the necessary application forms and process this grant on your behalf.
Hearing Aid Repairs
The grant is also available for hearing aid repairs, again the grant in this case is 50% of the cost of the repair to the hearing aid. The repair grant is available on a more regular basis.
Can I get tax relief?
Income tax rebates for income tax payers are also available under the MED 1 Scheme for prescribed medical appliances, which include hearing aids. These rebates are also available to income tax payers where their dependant relative is obtaining a hearing aid (conditions apply).
