Delicious Ways To Boost Your Hearing!

Hearing loss is a very common condition, and many people develop problems with their hearing as they age. There are, however, many ways to help prevent hearing loss by protecting the delicate hearing system and your diet is an especially good way to take care of your ears and keep hearing well for longer.

Some foods are particularly high in the vitamins and minerals our bodies need to keep the ears and auditory processing systems functioning perfectly. Magnesium has been proven to help protect against noise induced hearing loss, and there are many fruits and vegetables that are naturally high in this vital mineral. Here are some of our favourite foods to help you to get more magnesium into your diet…

Healthy Ways to Prevent Hearing Loss

1.    Bananas. Bananas are a great source of magnesium, so chop one over your cereal, wrap in foil with some dark chocolate to liven up your BBQ this summer, or add two bananas to an egg and a handful of flour and blueberries and cook yourself some super-healthy breakfast pancakes.

2.    Artichokes. Naturally high in magnesium, artichokes are a gorgeous starter when steamed and served with garlic mayonnaise.

3.    Potatoes. Now I’m sure we don’t need to tell you what to do with potatoes, but whether you prefer them baked until their skins are crispy or added to a soup with your favourite veggies, they’ll give you a great boost of the magnesium your ears need.

4.    Broccoli. Broccoli is another good source of magnesium, and it tastes great stir-fried in a little oil with some peppers and plenty of olive oil and served with spaghetti.

5.    Avocados. One of the top superfoods to fit into your diet, avocados contain high levels of many vitamins and minerals, including magnesium. Bake half an avocado with an egg broken into it, or mash up with salt, pepper, a small chopped onion, a handful of coriander and a splash of lemon juice for a fabulous, healthy guacamole.

Try out different ways to include these foods in your diet and you’ll know that you’re doing your ears a favour, but you could also consider consulting a nutritionist or including a magnesium supplement in your diet since many people are deficient in this important mineral.
