Healthy Hearing: Attending Maintenance Appointments

Healthy Hearing: Attending Maintenance Appointments

Living with hearing loss can be challenging, and finding a hearing aid that helps is often a great relief. However, it’s very important to maintain that hearing aid correctly in order to prevent any problems developing and to keep it functioning as well as possible.

Our audiologists at Hidden Hearing will work with you to find the right hearing aid for you after your initial hearing test, in which they will have established the extent of your hearing loss and how it is affecting your life. After you have been fitted with your hearing aid, however, you will need to schedule regular maintenance appointments to continue to keep track of your hearing, and to ensure that your hearing aid is giving you the best performance possible.

What Happens At A Hearing Aid Maintenance Appointment?

  1. We check your hearing aids. You can alert us to any problems with your hearing aids, and we can discuss how they are working for you and what supplies you are using or may need replaced.
  1. We clean your hearing aids. You will, of course, be cleaning your hearing aids on a daily basis, but we will give them a thorough deep clean and ensure that every part is in full working order. Any repairs can be carried out or arranged at this time.
  1. We make necessary adjustments. Sometimes the balance is not quite right in your hearing aids, and we can make minor noise adjustments that will make a big difference to you. It’s important to note any discomfort with sound or issues you may have, so that you don’t forget to raise these during your appointment.
  1. We talk to you. This appointment is a great time to talk through any concerns you may have, and especially to flag up any further difficulties you are experiencing with your hearing. You should have a regular hearing test to track any progression of your hearing loss, and we can often arrange to do this at the same time as your hearing aid maintenance appointment.
